I'm currently trying to get into the habit of putting a backup on at the same time every week. I'm trying to do this by mentally moving "backups" into the same headspace of household chores which contains concepts like "laundry".
In the unlikely event that I ever find myself bringing up children, I think I'd like to see if I can indoctrinate them from an early age with the idea that backups are a standard household chore. I'm sure they'd thank me for it thirty years later.
In my case everything is driven from the machine with the backup device, but since you point out that anacron will solve this perhaps I should rethink that...
I don't think I'd be comfortable with that, because it would involve all the backup hardware being permanently connected and switched on. My most common cause of hardware failure in the past has been power surges, so it's now become important to me that at all times there's an air gap between all my wiring (mains, network, you name it) and at least one of my backup devices...

I was vaguely planning the technical fix - if I can get to the point where everything happens via cron jobs I'll be happy.
