Locked up

Lately my procedure for locking my bike up has been:

  1. Fish keys out of pocket
  2. Unlock padlock
  3. Return keys to pocket
  4. Unloop chain from handlebars (it's not locked to the handlebars in any sense, but unlocking it makes it a little easier).
  5. Lock padlock
  6. Fish keys out of pocket
  7. Unlock padlock
  8. Return keys to pocket
  9. Loop chain around bike and stand
  10. Lock padlock

As it happens I think I've mostly broken out of this, but it was annoying while it lasted.

How do you break this kind of antipattern?
