Knocked off bike
I was knocked off my bike on the way home from Montgomery Road last night (Monday). Before anyone worries too much I am not seriously injured.
I was traveling north on Campkin Road around 11:15pm, approximately at the zebra before Crowlands Way, when a car passed me very close and something hit me hard on the right elbow. I assume it was a wing mirror. The car did not stop but continued north. Under the circumstances spotting the license plate was not possible.
A Scandinavian-sounding woman helped me up and checked I was basically OK. A couple appeared a minute or so later and similarly checked I was OK. I walked home.
My injuries are:
- the base of my right thumb hurts a bit if I put any weight through it
- my right elbow aches (but has no visible bruising at that point; I think the end of the radius)
- a graze on the opposite side of the same elbow
- aching and a graze at the top of my right leg
- I have a cut to my left shin and some grazes below it
I can still type, as you can see, but clearly I won't be doing any heavy lifting with my right hand for at least a few days.
I did not spot any serious damage to my bike (though I've not checked it in daylight). My front light had spilled its batteries but when I reassembled it at home it was fine. My chain has come off. I had no trouble wheeling my bike home so I don't think the wheels are buckled at all.
I reported it to the police over the phone last night and they said I should come in today to fill in a report. I plan to do that this afternoon.
