Gosh, it's ages since I reported what's actually been happening.
It's all a bit of a blur at the moment. At some point we watched The Avengers which was fun but silly; the dialog is just a bit too mannered, the teddy bears were funny though. They didn't make enough of the evil twin. We went to
sbp's birthday party which was good - nice to catch up with
nwc10.
I've been rewriting DisOrder, my jukebox software, in C. It's going well; it has most of the features of the Perl version, plus some improvements over it, the main ones being much better configurability and much greater speed. The design is much better than the extremely ad-hoc nature of the Perl version, too. While we're talking software I've received some contributions to my web photo gallery software from
crazyscot which I still need to get round to incorporating (having promised to do so at the weekend and then not found time).
Weekly swimming continues and I'm now numerically back in the area I was before Christmas, but finding it much easier going; I think I'm rapidly going to find that sustaining interest becomes the limiting factor in the distance I swim rather than exhaustion. One amusing sight was two adjacent swimmers, one doing an extremely graceless crawl - practically slapping the water with each stroke and sending large amounts of it flying all over the place - the other doing the same stroke in a fashion elegant almost to the point of being mannered. Having done nothing but breaststroke for ages, it's perhaps cheeky of me to comment, though.
Karate I'm finding I have a much better feel for what I'm trying to do with the first bits we learned, though putting them together properly is still proving tricky. The more recently added moves are still proving very tricky. Grading is on the 21st.
Work is proving quite tough going at the moment. My current project has largely been good fun, but the last week has been pretty stressful. I think it'll turn out OK in the end, but I could use a break pretty soon (and while I booked some time off, it's already been necessary to shift it by two days).

I really must start again. I know it'll be depressing the first couple of times, unlikely to get past 400 metres. Used to be up to 700. Of course L did a klom in the same time I did 600.
We used to see a guy who WALKED round the pool. Treaded water hard enough to actually make a circuit, took him ages but I bet it's good for some set of muscles or other.
