I thought it was great, and I don't think it lacked energy -- just a different kind of energy from what you'd get on stage. I think the sense of spectacle came across bigger and faster and more slick than it would on stage, and there was so much potential for clever effects which you wouldn't be able to do on stage... OTOH there is something magical about musicals with Real People Right There In Front Of You. <sigh> Want to see more musicals on stage.
