Back to the gardens

These plants were crawling with bees. They didn't stay still long making it hard to get interesting shots of them but I like the effect of this one.

Similarly this fellow was hopping around like mad, but conveniently always returned to the same place and eventually stayed still long enough for a decent picture.

What's this then?

This one on the other hand decided to perch on the fence just as I was passing and stay there. It's the largest insect I've photographed by a reasonable margin, and it sat there for a few minutes, wiggling occasionally, while I moved slowly closer in to get a better look.

I stopped here to put my camera away. It won't fit in the kit bag with the newest lens attached so I have to switch back to one of the smaller ones.
