Hexapodia as the key insight

The wings remind me of stained-glass windows. 100% crop of the head, showing the compound eyes.

Mostly the hoverflies were after flowers, but this one rested on a leaf for a while.

Could the red things be eggs? This really tiny, the photo is heavily cropped.

I like the way the eyes come up bright red under flash.

Moth hiding from the sun.

There were a couple of these, but only this one was photographable. You can make out the black/yellow striping with the naked eye but the rest of the color is only visible with the flash.

The red bits look like parasites to me, but I don't "know".
