Torchwood #6 (spoilers)
- Unusual to see Ianto out of the office. You can see why they might not trust him there though.
- Can you catch hepatitis from a burger?
- Tosh getting a bit more airtime than usual, perhaps. The teaser looked like next week might be a Tosh ep too.
- “This has all the hallmarks of a trap.” “I was thinking the same thing. Anyone fancy a walk?” “Ah. We must be in TV.”
- All those shoes. You're going to be EATEN ALIVE BY IMELDA MARCOS.
- Holing up in the pub was very Shaun Of The Dead.
So I'm happy to say I was right about the fascination with the less pleasant side of human behavior: no aliens at all here, just people eating one another because they like it. And why not?
I must say I'm having trouble seeing what Gwen can possibly see in Owen; and if you want an answer to Barry Norman's question, well, there's tens of millions of other people and quite a few aliens, not all of them hideous, on the same island. Perhaps it's time for Jack to use Zaphod's line; this is after all British SF.
Ianto losing track of Tosh was genuinely tense and was probably the high point of the episode. I suspect they were aiming for Jack busting in and saving the day to be the best bit, but it just reminded me of the A-Team (which I'm still waiting for the film remake of), which I guess was a perfectly good resolution within the parameters of Torchwood but was really quite hopeless as part of a well-honed plot.
