• Unusual to see Ianto out of the office. You can see why they might not trust him there though.
 • Can you catch hepatitis from a burger?
 • Tosh getting a bit more airtime than usual, perhaps. The teaser looked like next week might be a Tosh ep too.
 • “This has all the hallmarks of a trap.” “I was thinking the same thing. Anyone fancy a walk?” “Ah. We must be in TV.”
 • All those shoes. You're going to be EATEN ALIVE BY IMELDA MARCOS.
 • Holing up in the pub was very Shaun Of The Dead.

So I'm happy to say I was right about the fascination with the less pleasant side of human behavior: no aliens at all here, just people eating one another because they like it. And why not?

I must say I'm having trouble seeing what Gwen can possibly see in Owen; and if you want an answer to Barry Norman's question, well, there's tens of millions of other people and quite a few aliens, not all of them hideous, on the same island. Perhaps it's time for Jack to use Zaphod's line; this is after all British SF.

Ianto losing track of Tosh was genuinely tense and was probably the high point of the episode. I suspect they were aiming for Jack busting in and saving the day to be the best bit, but it just reminded me of the A-Team (which I'm still waiting for the film remake of), which I guess was a perfectly good resolution within the parameters of Torchwood but was really quite hopeless as part of a well-honed plot.

I thought the second list item being empty was really witty comment on the episode, but on closer examination I think you may have said
instead of

Ah, this browser doesn't show the empty LI. Should be fixed.

Ah! (I can't decide which is more logical.) Sorry for bringing it up, I just thought it was funny :)

It was all very horror-movie, at least in my deliberately-limited experience of the genre. The wind was adding appropriate sound-effects in real-life too.

Gwen seems to be stupid. Running off into a dark night with a shotgun wound, failing to shoot the corrupt policeman, pushing the obvious psychopath for an answer to why he's a psychopath. Owen's just the most glaring bit of evidence really.

Jack's darker side more in evidence (torture, shooting-to-wound).

To enable him to give the "coz it makes me happy" line.

failing to shoot the corrupt policeman
To show she's not just a vicious bastard, and is therefore a GoodGuy

Running off into a dark night with a shotgun wound
Well, we've all done that. It was only a flesh wound.

All well-known cliches really. Pretty much expected in our house.

Gwen is becoming too stupid to be enjoyable...

Mark's comment was "Ah, so it's female, then."

I must say I'm having trouble seeing what Gwen can possibly see in Owen

She's a humungous dipshit with no moral compass, apparently. I am definitely going to take a deeply malicious pleasure in redacting this one.

And yet we will all watch it next week. And I can not for the life me tell you why. Perhaps someone else will be better able to articulate it.

It's the collective consciousness thing. TV (even bad TV) works best when it's a shared experience.
