Especially when used ironically.

Can we please declare a moratorium on the phrase “do you see what I did there”? Even when used ironically.

I think "I see what you did there" is OK, used ironically, but "do you see what I did there" sounds smug and should be stomped on.

I think I've only ever seen "do you see" used ironically, as in either "Look what an obvious comment I made, I do know it's obvious" or "Possibly that was _too_ subtle, so I'll mock myself". So sort of smug, but not actually superior in those cases.
