I'm not an AFPer (I did however go to one afpmeet, but I don't think you were there). Oxbridge.tat meet is almost certainly the correct explanation (possibly the one which ended up in the High Street branch of Pizza Hut?).

After thinking about it a bit I'm reasonably sure we met at Monday pizza some time before there were such things as sinister green parties (though whether that was the first time I couldn't say). The earliest conversation I recall was arguing at IWJ's place, probably post-pizza, about whether the apostrophe was a special or non-special character in RFC822 (...now should I admit to that?)

I'm reasonably certain that we met at some dreadful AFP meet where people were going all "LOOK I AM CLEVER THERE IS CHOCOLATE ON THIS BROCCOLI." Then I got drunk so as to forget where I was.
