They do say Prof Aaron says the Welsh have what might be likened to a survival gene near the start - the later references to genes could be interpreted as shorthand for this, rather than literal claims of genetic causation.

The problem is, it's really hard to comment on an article like that without contrasting Wales and Scotland in a way that is inevitably offensive to the Welsh.
