They do say Prof Aaron says the Welsh have what might be likened to a survival gene near the start - the later references to genes could be interpreted as shorthand for this, rather than literal claims of genetic causation.

Possibly. I think it's at least heading in the direction of Sokal & Bricmont territory though.
