I'm prepraed to try any number of tactics before giving up and doing it myself...

'ask him' generally seems to work.

my vote translates as 'kiss him until he gets bored and does what I wanted anyway', because that generally works as a strategy.

Hmm, it might work for you, but I suspect if ask/reason fails for me, "do without" or "do it myself" are more likely to work, depending on what it is. (Or "escalate to management and get someone else to tell him", in theory, I suppose, but it seems unlikely I'd have a case for that working when "reason" didn't.)
