You forgot "create a meaningless Facebook group".

Someone, upon leaving ARM some years ago, posted a long resignation letter to an internal newsgroup explaining how they were leaving the company because they were then in their mid twenties, life was short, and they needed to go and overthrow the Chinese government. Seriously.

[identity profile] lethargic-man.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And what has this person achieved with their life since?

(And of course one should overthrow the Chinese government seriously. After all, it's no laughing matter.)

And what has this person achieved with their life since?

If I went into that in detail it would reveal their identity, and I'm not feeling quite that mean spirited.

However, if anyone wants to ply me with beer... ;-)

Needless to say, the Chinese government need not quake in its boots on his behalf.

Tut! If one destroys all competing revolutionaries, there will be no-one left to keep the authorities busy while you perform your master plan, and no-one to forge false alliances with for expendable manpower, and then betray!

Drop and give me 20 coup d'etat!

After the revolution we will be the authorities.

[identity profile] saraphale.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but one may need the competing revolutionaries to reach that stage.

[identity profile] aardvark179.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and you either want some competing revolutionary groups to go for, or you'll have to make some up.

The jackboot need something to stamp on. :-)

Stick a pin in a map, drive there, kick in the nearest door. I don't see the problem.

Oh, that's so twentieth century! These days we find some child pornography on their computer or ASBO them.

The former authorities automatically become a counter-revolutionary movement in any case; further factions aren't absolutely essential.

I prefer the term 'Unify the Revolutionary Movement'.

I note that 40% of respondents seem not to have noticed there can only be one first step, singular.

In any case, my parents were killed in the revolution, you insensitive clod.

I was working on the principle that any real revolution would involve performing all five actions simultaneously. Obviously the Winter Palace has WiFi and a suitable supply of eggs...

I fear they may be Fabergé eggs, though. Making an omelette out of those would be both unpopular and ruinously expensive.

Also probably unsafe.

Yes, the first thing to do in a revolution is to fill in a risk assessment form.

Well, we're currently prosecuting our police under health and safety legislation for shooting a member of the public, I guess we could try prosecuting revolutionaries on a similar basis?

(I also remember the case of someone on death row in the USA who claimed the FDA hadn't approved the lethal injection as safe for use on humans. I seem to recall they backed down when offered the chair instead.)

Perhaps the responses of those people should be interpreted to mean "any one of these — it doesn't matter which".

What sort of LJ post did you have in mind?
"This is a Revolution meme. There will be an LJ revolution on Jesus Green at 12. Nobody is organising this, it'll just happen. Bring food!"
