Hot damn, but Oxford needs guerilla knitters.

How did they get them on? Unless they were put in place along with the bike stands themselves, there must be a seam on the bottom.

The usual approach (to yarn bombing) is to sew the knitting on with a seam.

However it would be possible to knit a tube onto a bike stand without any seaming, if one were willing to actually sit there and do so (it'd take ages and be very uncomfortable).

Or break out the pneumatic drill and uproot the bike rack to thread it on from one end, then concrete it back into the ground before anyone noticed.

I see your knitted bike racks, and raise you a carpeted zebra crossing (http://www.michael-grant.me.uk/images/ljtrivia/2007-Summer/originals/zebra_crossing.jpeg)!

They should do those in Turkmenistan!

Is it just me or are those not dangerous? They have much lower contrast with the road surface, so they'll be much less visible to motorists, and it wouldn't surprise me if some people with limited vision had more difficulty locating them.

It looks like they're on a very faded crossing anyway, but it's hard to tell from just this bits which are sticking out.

Those have lasted well. According to Cambridge News, they've been around for a week or so. And it's not the first instance of guerilla knitting in Cambridge, either!

That purple bike really sets them off :-)
