Dec. 14th, 2004 01:08 amSome time ago I put together a web page of all the userpics my squid had recently seen. I decided to do the same again this evening. I think there are fewer animated userpics this time; perhaps the novelty has worn off, or more people recognize that they can be visually irritating if over-used?
There are however rather a lot of santa hats l-) And just the odd bit of holly.
600-odd userpics in a single page
I should really get to bed but I'm still feeling pretty wide awake.

Icons 2–11 at the top of the page are all owned by the same person, and there is one more of theirs further down (at the end of a row, saying "the light is beautiful").
The last slash-delimited component in the URL of a userpic is the user number of its owner. You can get from a LiveJournal account name to a user number simply by going to the userinfo page of that account, but I don't know of any simple way to do this mapping in reverse. You can, however, search google for site:livejournal.com nnnnnn (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Alivejournal.com+899098) and half the time it will send you straight to that user's info page.
Sadly, user 497272 can't be found by this method. However, we can say with reasonable certainty (by inference from users 497271 and 497273) that this user created their journal on 2002-03-16 at a few minutes past 11pm, Pacific time. This probably means they live on the West coast of the USA.
The penultimate component of the URL seems to vary monotonically with time, though with an increasing gradient which leads me to think it is related to the actual number of userpics uploaded. The "light is beautiful" icon appears shortly after the picture of
Obviously, since there are 11 pics, this user has a paid account. However, I don't think any of the above is enough to identify the user without further knowledge of what Squid's users were looking at.
