New computer bits arrived today, though having much better things to do this morning I've only now started installing them. So now downstairs has a new CD ROM drive, and upstairs has twice as much main memory and a new video card, which caused a bit of trouble until I stopped using the locally compiled X server (which had a bug fix since also reflected in Debian testing). I'm going to take a backup before attempting to install XP...

XP installation went pretty smoothly. It slightly rudely installed its own MBR without even saying so, but I kind of expected that, an was able to cope. Warcraft III has very cheesy backplot; haven't installed RTW yet and our plans for the rest of the evening are a bit more sociable so that may have to wait a little.
