Nov. 30th, 2004 12:24 amI enjoyed all your stupid questions; amusingly diverting now and then over a couple of days. Sensible questions might be harder to answer l-)
Good Karate lesson this evening; arrived early and found the dojo empty of its usual previous occupants, which was a good opportunity for a bit of extra informal practice. The lesson itself consisted of a mock grading; I think the main things I need to concentrate on before the real thing are perfecting stances and footwork in the kumite, and not forgetting bits of kata (or worse, doing a technique from the wrong kata half way through).
Still working my way through Decline And Fall. The Normans have had their mediterreanean adventures and we're taking a look at the Seljuks, starting with their arrival at the heart of the Islamic world. If you replace Turks with Germans, the Caliph with the western Roman Emperor, and Arabs with Romans, you get more or less the pattern that ended with the abdication of Romulus Augstulus centuries previously; a striking case of history repeating itself. (Replacing Mongols with Huns isn't so bad a fit, either...)
Rather feeling that I don't have enough time to read at the moment; I already have dozens of books in the house I've not got round to reading and people keep recommending more.
