The blurb for Strange Days always reminded me strongly of a book I read from the library in the late 80s called Down Time. However, it was so long between reading it and actually seeing Strange Days that I can't recall how well they matched up. But I've certainly seen less faithful adaptations which admitted which book they were supposed to be based on.
