Short, succint, to the point and entirely unrefutable:-)
http://www.anorakzone.com/christophereccleston/ has reviews of the final 2-parter and most of the other episodes (except ep1, Rose, and eps 9-11 as well IIRC) on there. The episode reviews not on there should be on there soon as he is quite good about updating.
The reviews are well worth reading, and I find it hard to disagree with his assessments. He is a fan of Dr Who I hasten to point about, but he is very clear about what he doesn't like (his reviews of the classic Dr Who are here - http://grke.net/anorak/).
Strikes me he's something of a snob.. frankly I found the slapstick humour very funny and a good way of lightening it up. Doctor Who has never exactly been a gritty drama *or* a high-quality SF series - I think he's expecting a bit much..
Hang on! IF by UU you mean Until Uru, then I don't yet, though I've been meaning to for ages (I've got the Kagi mail sitting in my inbox). If there's a lark_ascending on UU it's not me, I was lahrehkee on Live..
Though any tips you've got for getting started would be fantabulous..
No, I haven't seen a lark_ascending. I just saw it in your interests and leapt to a faulty conclusion...
Well, if you have your key from Kagi, the best way to get started is to go to the UU site (http://plasma.cyanworlds.com) and register. Then you need to download the client software and bolt it on to your installation of Uru (make sure you remove the expansion packs if you've got them: if you want to keep a stand-alone install of the expanded game, there are instructions on some of the D'ni forums on doing what's called a parallel install.
Once you've done this, you can join any shard (=a fan-run server with the game on it): most are American and so tend to be fairly inactive when we're awake. The Meeting Place is I think the most popular Brit one. I spend most of my time on Tapestry Shard (and stay up unfeasibly late far too often). You create your avatar, and go through the opening sequence of the game (some shards are kind and leave the Door open so you don't have to do the whole thing)and when you get to Relto you start with the four Age books in their pillars and a Neighbourhood book (neighbourhoods are separate communities on the shard) on your bookshelf. From the neighbourhood you can get to the Nexus and thence to Ae'gura.
