My laptop needs its battery replacing. Bah.

On the plus side, plugging my Apple keyboard (and the mouse hanging off it) into my Linux box's USB port just works (modulo fighting xkb to death to get the layout right). So I think the next thing I need is USB-enabled KVM switch. Longer term, it means I could plausibly fit an iMac or something on my desk next to the PC; with only one keyboard to worry about there'd be room for something like a graphics tablet.

(I've not tried the Apple keyboard with Windows XP, which my PC also occasionally runs, but assume it'll likely also just work.)

If it's just yer basic Apple USB keyboard with the ports at each end, then I've found it works fine with WinXP apart from a few small differences in the keyboard layout, depending on how the XP box is configured.
But take note of this bit of weirdness (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/6747) with some Belkin KVMs.

Useful to know - we had problems with trying to KVM our mini Mac at work, simply because our existing KVM box refuses to work if you don't have a (PS/2) keyboard plugged in for that device. I might see if I can persuade them to replace it with a USB one.
