From Tesco's Corporate Responsibility web page:

'Our core values 'no-one tries harder for customers' and 'treat people how we like to be treated' characterise our approach to Corporate Responsibility. We believe we can achieve most when we work together on practical things that make a difference. 'Every little helps' can become a great deal when everyone pulls in the same direction.'

From news.bbc:

Although the retailer later admitted liability, Tesco said it was only prepared to pay 25% of the cost of the repairs.

He rejected their offer and sued Tesco for the full cost of the bill.

The long-running battle ended in a court hearing in December, where Tesco - who had defended the claim - offered no evidence.

A county court judgment was made against the firm and it was ordered to pay Mr Bond £2,690 by 12 December 2006.

But nearly three months after the ruling, Tesco has failed to pay damages to Mr Bond.

We always used to have to try very hard at Parents' Evening not to say, and not to let teachers say "I've been expecting you, Mr Bond".

Perhaps not the best day for that to hit the media, given their current apologetic stance (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6421783.stm) for recent problems.

[The Beeb just happened to have that photograph handy, I wonder why? *grin*]

When Tesco despite a court order does not pay do they put them in prison?

Nobody gets imprisoned for non-payment of court orders in civil cases - it's up to the plaintiff to send in the bailiffs (which can be hilarious e.g. when someone did that to a bank).

(TV license non-payment and other stuff to do with not paying the government can get you imprisoned)

Not self-contradictory in the slightest. Tesco are telling us that we should refuse to pay for food when we go in there :)

I was just going to say that, too! It seems clear that they only expect you to pay a quarter of their bills, :).

Their slogan makes perfect sense, they're the pigs and we're their gnats!

I'm surprised they didn't just offer to give him lots of clubcard points instead.

Surely Mr Bond should issue a statutory demand, followed by a petition to the court to have Tesco wound up. :-)
