[livejournal.com profile] damerell observed at the weekend I tend to make lots of little audible noises when I am thinking/when I am about to speak. I think they cofuse him sometimes.

Now, do I have anything to say that would make it worth posting a follow-up comment here? Not sure. I'll think about it for a bit.

The AT THE TOP OF MY VOICE is mainly when I'm berating myself for being an absolute plonker... Most of the time it's a quietly muttered commentary on what I'm doing.

"Near-inaudibly" is my normal speaking volume.

I've recently found that given the choice I will talk to a cat rather than myself.

What annoys me is people who talk to themselves/random objects quietly whilst they are also having a conversation with you such that you can't quite hear them. It would be much better to be completely audible or completely inaudible so that it is easier to filter.

I think "talking to my bees" also counts as talking to myself, since they neither hear nor answer. Twice in the last week, I was talking to them and my supervisor thought I was talking to him...and then the same thing happened with another student in my lab. And so I looked like a proper potty wally! Tee hee!

This disregards the standard _internal_ monologue, I presume?
