I'd like to build a scale model of Jersey which I would call the Folly Bergerac, but I'd need the tower to hide in after that pun so it gets priority.

If I were to build a tower or a whole castle, it would be to live in, not as a folly.

I was working on the assumption I get the big grand house and the lovely sweeping parkland with avenue and lake as well. The tower would obviously be inhabitable, if not my primary residence.

Have you ever visited Castle Drogo (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-castledrogo/)? It's a really very remarkable result of someone doing that in the early part of the 20th century ...

I have to say I quite like the ones which are different things on each side.

Temple would have been my second choice though, especially with some sort of grotto on the back.

A grotto with stone doors that were carved to match the western entry to the mines of Moria.

I would build a sort of combined towery castley thing, and live in it. The qanat is obviously the right folly to build, as it will provide water when the mains water permanently fails, and the crocodile stables will help me defend my water from marauding bandits.

A mausoleum of some kind. The instructions for my executors would be to bury me in such a manner as to cause maximum confusion among future archaeologists.

I'm thinking impregnating the corpse with various mixtures of radioisotopes to confuse dating. Bonus marks if they can somehow make me appear to have died millions of years in the future.

I'm thinking mummification according to 3000-year-old Egyptian recipes, followed by burial in a full set of 14th century plate armor. A dodo's bones under my feet, and internal organs doctored to show that my last meal was a mammoth steak. Burial inscriptions to be translated into Sumerian, Sanskrit, Latin and Qenya. And a fifth set of random syllables arranged to *look* like a language, but that don't actually mean anything.

I'd have to build something that no one else would think of building. Perhaps a palace for bumblebees. Or something cooler than that. I don't know yet!

I want to build a folly now! *stompyfoot*

Well build one. If it's very small it shouldn't take too long.

I'd probably build something like Casa Loma (http://www.casaloma.org/) just because I like it so much. I'd try to amke enough changes people would think me imaginative.

I could swear this poll comes as a predecessor to a post saying "I've just visited The Forbidden Corner (http://www.theforbiddencorner.co.uk/), which is a folly that has some, none, all or fewer of the things in your poll and is my single favourite place in the country. All those in a follyish mood really ought to visit.

With sufficient funding, I would build a folly with all of the above. Except the qanat, because I don't know what one is. (Oh, OK, now I do (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qanat).) Nah, skip on that to save money. Except the qanat because it's not as much fun as the others.
