I'm still fond of LJ, although it's obviously much quieter these days.
I think there's a sort of fuzzy tendency towards ease of content creation.
twittering and facebooking feels like less work than writing long LJ posts, so people drift over there. etc.
I find there's always a tension between avoiding a platform because eg it sucks, and the need to be there in order to communicate with the people who like it.
