Of a short story (it doesn't matter which):

It's a good read, though since its writing, others have picked up the concept, making it less original than it was.

...is it just me or has someone fundamentally misunderstood the meaning of "original"?

Sloppy writing, possibly - the reviewer meant 'feels less original'?
