In fact I went to my GP, they being reasonably close and able to produce an appointment at a sensible time at no notice. He thought it unlikely to be broken but sent me off for an X-ray to be sure. Either this didn't find anything or they didn't think to tell me that it did...

Just out of interest, which enlightened (or, possibly, cancellation-riven) set of GPs is this? I've always had horrible problems getting appointments, even emergency ones. Thankfully, I haven't needed many of those, but a reluctance to give me an appointment when I was bleeding from one ear soured me a bit on my current practice.

If your practice is anything like mine, that'll be because the receptionist is stupid enough to fill the emergency appointments with routine stuff. I recently had an appointment about something that could easily have waited several days if needs be, and was given an appointment that very afternoon. When the doctor discovered what I was there for, he mildly chided me for taking up an emergency appointment, until I explained that the receptionist hadn't even told me I was using an emergency slot!

Hopefully, he told them off, and the problem's gone away, now.

I've rarely had a problem getting an appointment at mine (Bridge St). In fact, you remind me I need to set up a non-urgent appointment with them ...

Nuffield Rd. I'm pretty happy with them.

When I banged my toe in Durham once it made it rather difficult to walk so I went to A&E. They said that there was no point in X-raying it because they'd do the same thing whether it was broken or not.

Addenbrookes managed to fit me in at an hours notice, so I guess that they must have sufficient capacity to do just-in-case X-rays at the moment. It'd be nice if they had a bit more sensibly-located parking space though...
