Hmm. Not very impressive, I must say. Even if they really couldn't find anyone to ask permission from in advance, leaving a note on the tree with a telephone number, or similar, would have been the very least they ought to have done.
But, of course, what they really should have done is go find a tree they could get permission in advance to ding. There must be plenty, I would have thought.
Jeremy Clarkson is obviously a controversial figure, and that's largely how he makes his living. He says some extremely silly things about drink, smoking and homosexuality, plus some somewhat undeserved things about Norfolk. However, in a decade and a half this is the first time I've heard of him doing something objectionable. I guess we all have our lapses.
