Hear hear.
I was never a big gin drinker until I started attending the end-of-course dinners that run for our external course. Pre-dinner drinks are the norm and since nearly everyone around me was having a G&T the first time I went, I decided to have one too. I think I like the sharpness - I like tonic on its own, too. With a slice of lemon or lime and a couple of chunks of ice G&T is a lovely summer evening tipple.

I note that Denis Thatcher's view is not actually incompatible with the one you've quoted. He says it's never too early for a gin and tonic, whereas the view you quote says that it's sometimes too late :-)

(No problems with gin here, but I can't stand tonic...)

Dammit. I really, really want a G&T right now.

I can't have a bottle of gin in the house. I like it far too much. A bottle of whisk(e)y lasts me a few months, if I buy a bottle of gin I find it's half-empty after a few days.

I don't care if my parents gurgle it by the bottle - as far as I can see the fact that it tastes unutterably vile suffices.
