but it takes so long to play

Is there some rule that says that flash animations have to be ridiculously slow? I don't mean that the animation is crungy, but it seems to be common to leave huge gaps (10+ seconds) between each character saying anything (or something happening or whatever) which turns what would probably be a brief amusing diversion into a painful and drawn-out wait. It'd help if the punchline was less lame...
