but upgrading to debian unstable/mozilla 1.6/waiting 24 hours fixed the problem. i think it's a transient lj screw-up (or an intentional PLOT by the GOVERNMENT to BRAINWASH us into learning more languages since we're obviously so bad at them ...)
I did some googling on one of the cyrillic words a while back and it came up with lots of .ru sites, which is part of what made me think it was Russian and not Bulgarian/Kazakh/Romanian before they changed script/anything else that gets written in Cyrillic.
