I wish I could say I was surprised by this. The US leadership (Rumsfeld in particular) has taken a "we make the rules and if you don't like what we do you can fuck off" attitude since Guantanamo Bay was set up, and this is the result. If they aren't going to stick to the Geneva convention at Guantanamo, why should their soldiers stick to it in Iraq?
Clearly, these particular soldiers broke the Eleventh Commandment.
