The point of the whole exercise was to celebrate my Dad's retirement; he is quite a francophile, hence the core of it was to be a meal out in France.

The chunnel was good when properly organized, i.e. on the outbound trip; we knew where we were supposed to be when, etc, and it all went smoothly. By comparison on the return trip nobody at all knew where they were supposed to be, resulting in a traffic jam hundreds of square meters in area and some very stressed staff trying to direct people with an "X" onto the train and everybody else back to somewhere to park (which they couldn't, because there wasn't enough space and the queue was in the way). It seems their computer system had got itself confused by the time change overnight, too. Eventually they told everybody with a letter to go through (presumably having stopped giving letters to new arrivals) and after a bit more queueing things seem to start working properly.

Apart from that...

Friday we only travelled as far as London and stayed with my brother. We worked our way through pizza, alcohol and The Shawshank Redemption, which was excellent. Saturday we headed over to France, meeting up with parents on the British side of the chunnel, spent the afternoon in the bar and the evening taking our time over the meal. Sunday morning we headed back, at which point the various transport troubles I've already described started.

We got back home just in time to put on a smart shirt and grab a little to eat before I had to head off to nCipher for an interview. I think it went quite well, if anything a little better than the last one. More news when I hear it l-)

Wow!
