More upgrading today. To cut a long story short, the firewall has gone from a 486 to a K6 and is now an AT/ATX board with an AT PSU in an ATX case; but boots from hard disk instead of a floppy and has a more realistic amount of disc space. I thought I was going to have to drill holes to make the power switch fit properly at one point but just disassembling it a bit turned out to be enough.

I also got sound going again on the other upgraded machine; and backups look like they might be working again too.

If anyone wants a (possibly faulty) ATX PSU, or a AT tower case with no PSU, let me know. (For free, but you have to collect.) The latter is much too bulky to keep around indefinitely and we're highly unlikely to find a use for it.
