I wasn't quite sure how many familiar faces to expect, although I did know a few people I knew would be going. But I was slightly surprised to find that Alan and Colette, who I've not seen for years, were there; I spent a while talking to a friend's housemate, only discovering that that's who they were after ten minutes or so; and I only twigged who Marna was when saying goodbye (though having misheard her name earlier on probably didn't help). I expect this kind of thing at newsgroup meets, so I ought to be used to it by now, but *shrug*.

It doesn't help that I've been given a nickname rather than a real name; people can't automatically parse it and it tends to get garbled as a result.
