Went to see Spiderman 2, more out of need for company than because I particularly wanted to see it. Though it was fun enough.

It was also a good excuse to try out Cambridge's newest cinema, which (particularly on Tuesdays, it seems) has a price advantage over the Vue but not such a convenient location for where I live (but pretty good for work, as are Cambridge's two other cinemas). The interior of the building I thought pretty soulless even for a modern commercial development though it seems OK as a cinema.

We (myself, [livejournal.com profile] nunfetishist and [livejournal.com profile] cjwatson were there tonight for Thunderbirds. I thoroughly recommend it as a great fun romp and hilarious in parts.

The interior, once upstairs, reminded me a little of the multiplex in Bracknell. I thought the seat arms were nasty and plasticy, and the sound was two dimensional and excessively bassy. There was however an OKish amount of leg room, and good tiering to the seats. Overall I don't think there's that much to choose between it and the Warner.

The film was OK except when it took itself seriously. As a comic-book action movie it was great, when the characters stopped to preach it lost pace and style; the "Oh, yeah, I forgot, be good, not evil" bit was just terrible. Somebody give Mary-Jane a character please. Some of the Spiderman sequences are nasty nasty nasty CGI.

Basically, Sam Raimi needed to make a Sam Raimi movie, not this.

There were two seconds when I looked at Spiderman in the full suit, doing high-kicks, and I just thought "Power Rangers". Which kind of spoilt it somewhat.
