What I can't work out is how on earth Anheuser-Busch actually got the stadium sponsorship deal in the first place, given that no self-respecting German with a working set of taste buds would drink the weak ersatz europiss that is "Bud" when infinitely better domestic brews are available, as is the real Budweiser from just over the border in České Budějovice.

I'm no beer connoisseur, but the Budweiser situation has always seemed more than a little odd to me given the more usual approach to appelations.

Apparently, the UK is unique in that both beers are allowed to trade using the name Budweiser, rather than just one or the other.

I have no idea where I heard this and cannot provide a citation, though.
