Jack didn't actually spend the entire time hiding. Profiles usually seem to look worse on my screen than through the viewfinder - I think to my eye they lose something from being frozen to a moment - but I liked this one.

Tom is very photogenic. Smiling all the time helps but I don't think that's all there is to it; the camera just likes him.

I'd not used my 70-300mm for a while before Monday night. The IS is better than I remembered; if anything it makes a better low-light lens than the 17-85 (though perhaps I'm just not trying enough with the latter, having a couple of excellent f/1.8 alternatives in that range).

The rest, including the kittens. I do seem to rather prefer the black and white look for portraits, but I've tried to keep a few in color nonetheless.

I must get you to take some band snaps of the Dealers. We're meant to ahve a gallery but the only pics we've got are some dire live ones where you can see the light glancing off bald spots and I look like I'm wishing the ground would open up and swallow me :)

I could be persuaded. Have any locations in mind?

Not offhand, no, given that I can't find any walls of hot fudge (http://myspace.com/hibachidealers) locally :) The Lockup (standard issue Cambridge rehearsal studio) is great for that rock'n'roll urban decay thing, but I should prolly think up something that captures the Dealers' slightly quirkier personality instead...
