Snog a frog

A wizard shows you a box of frogs and tells you that one is really a prince (or princess, if you prefer) awaiting the kiss that will restore them to their true form. For the sake of argument you believe them. But how many frogs will you kiss to save the prince?

[x] I have no particular aversion to kissing frogs, but no particular desire to see one turn into a prince or princess.

I'd kiss the frogs, not because I wanted the prince, but because I wanted to free the poor chap from his spell. I'd kiss them if a wizard convinced me they were any human being at all, I mean. I would probably want help with kissing 1000 frogs though; that's just too much kissing!

Yes.

Maybe it's not the *kissing* so much as it being really embarrassing if it's *not* a prince. And of course maybe princes are a bit out of date nowadays :)

Hmm, if the frogs don't know they are really humans then I see no harm in them remaining frogs. If they are aware of their humanity then I should be able to make a sign they'll understand.

So I'll separate out the humans as frogs from the plain frogs and avoid any unnecessary batrachian snogging.

Are these frogs guaranteed non-poisonous? Otherwise it's all a bit frog roulette (er, Russian frog?).

So it's okay to turn people into frogs so long as you wipe their mind when you do it? What about the king and queen who (presumably) are missing their child?

As for numbers, are we talking a quick peck on the cheek or a full blown snog? If the latter, just how prone to giving huge financial rewards do we expect a restored prince/princess (and/or their relieved parents) to be?

"I'd only kiss frogs if they were guaranteed not to turn into a prince/princess" not close enough for ya?

I agree with livredor that I'd kiss frogs to release any hapless enchanted person from a spell. I also agree that 1000 would take a long time, so assistance would be required. However, as fairy tales usually involve marrying princes afterwards, I would point out ahead of time that I'm a happily married woman and have no interest in anything further than releasing-from-spells.

Where's the "a frog killed my parents, you insensitive clod" option?

Good point about the parents, I was rather thinking about it from the frogs point of view. Averagely content frog vs. incredible social embarrassment inflicted on innocent princess—I mean that story about having been to finishing school in Switzerland probably isn't going to hold up under any real scrutiny, and there's nothing like eating flies for five years for excluding you from the garden party set.

I wouldn't expect the restored frogs to have any money, that will probably have been stolen and thoroughly laundered by whoever turned them into (or paid to have them turned into) the frog in the first place. Kiss them out of kindness, but don't expect to get any pecuniary reward.

You know perfectly well that a frog didn't kill your mother.

I thought that, but that's positively opposed, whereas he sounded more indifferent :)

You might suppose that no-one would make lj polls about that sort of thing, but that does not in fact appear to be the case.

But this is the sort of argument that leads to spending lives in drug hazes. It'd be like waking them up from a coma or something, wouldn't it, which must be good, mustn't it?

Years snogging frogs in search of prince: 11

Minor aristocracy: 4

Toads: 1

Damsels in distress: 2 (go me)

Princes: 1. At bleeding last.

So beardy can take his frogs to the next peasant wench in line ;-)

Which idiot changed the fairy tale? The princess did not even want the frog being at her table and definitely not kissing him. The Grimm Story said she threw him against the wall when he wanted to go into her bed. A nicer version I read was that she finally took the frog into her bed and he automatically changed into a human prince. I would not risk throwing the poor thing against the wall accept there is a guarantee of breaking a spell.

I rented "Shrek" the first movie. For some strange reason they do not have "Shrek 2" but will release "Shrek 3". I was usually disappointed of films which had a continuous story. Does the story continue in "Shrek2"? Has he still his girl-friend? I enjoyed the film first one.

The story continues. It's too much fun to give it away in advance.
