I think the one on Bridge Street used to be another photography retailer (Techno? Something like that) which Jessops took over. Why they didn't shut one of the two branches at that stage, I don't know...
That leads me to this report (http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/cgi/news/release?id=81284) which indicates expansion from 70 to 300 stores in about a decade, which is fast enough to make me think we're seeing the results of over-expansion here: growing on the back of a boom in digital photography is all very well, but apart from the upgrade treadmill it strikes me as a market which needs less high street presence than film photography (because of the shift to online photo albums) rather than more.
Neither ever struck me as being very densely packed (not that I've been in there a while) so I'd have thought they could fit a wider range into each if they'd had to.
