I was trying to get some (any) kind of network filesystem access from my Mac to a Unix box. I didn't have much luck (which is another rant entirely) but I was amused by the “it's broken a PC” icon...

FWIW, I use NFSv3 to have my Macs mounting Linux and vice-versa, and it works just fine. I haven't attempted any sort of UID/GID mapping though. You may want to use "no_root_squash" and "insecure" on the Linux side to disable a couple of security mechanisms that don't really matter on a home LAN.

Samba and AFP never really worked reliably for me, so I don't bother with them.

NFS client on Leopard (against a Linux server) seemed to work fine, but running "DVD Player" on an NFS mounted DVD rip would kernel panic Tiger consistently within 20 minutes. I wasn't the first to report it to Apple. Maybe it's been fixed in Snow Leopard, but I don't hold out much hope.
