The rain stopped just as we arrived and started up pretty much as we set off home.
The black cloud here was the departing rain. The earthworks are the Saxon-era town walls, said to be put up by Alfred The Great.

St. Martin On The Wall. 11th century, apparently with the remains of some wall-paintings of that era, though we didn't get to go inside. Also notable for containing an effigy of T. E. Lawrence.
We concluded that he’d had a bit too much sherry.
