So, Aaron was a jailbird for 30 months. The arc leading to his campaign against James Erskin and Jericho is mostly well done: his conversation with Mike in the truck is brilliantly menacing. But there are a couple of weak points, to my mind. The first is the ease with which Mike tricks him into revealing Tracy’s location. The second is that he needed to: surely if Jericho can send someone to dupe Aaron, they could keep an eye on his house and therefore find Tracy without needing any trickery in the first place.
Finally the very episodic structure of the whole series has somewhat betrayed this development in Aaron’s character. Instead of drawing out his prison past and development from uncontrolled, ineffectual rage to tightly focused infiltration and violence, it’s all dropped on his within the space of a single hour.
Nice bit of lighting in Aaron Stark’s kitchen, though.
I was thinking right at the beginning that Noh ought to have personally melted down Benford’s gun, so really it wasn’t all that surprising that it turned up missing by the end of the episode.
Marshall Vogel (new guy on the team) is as bent an arrow as the rest of them. I suppose being in the (televisual l-) CIA will do that, but it appears to have scrambled his metaphors as well - “Be warned, we will be off the reservations, so if things go sideways, there’s no cavalry”.

Date: 2010-03-30 10:43 am (UTC)Yes, this! I was watching it with my Mum last night, and when Aaron turned round to Mike and blurted out, with very little in the way of hesitation, that she was back at his house, we both shouted 'Nooo!' at the TV in unison (and we're not usually vocal TV hecklers :) ).
“Be warned, we will be off the reservations, so if things go sideways, there’s no cavalry”.
*rofl* That's even better than Gene Hunt. If only there were a Sam Tyler-like character there to say 'That was a very mixed metaphor', I would have been in TV heaven[1] :)
[1] The nearest I've had to this lately was in the last episode of Heroes (as shown on BBC2, that is), with Hiro's broken fanboy brain. I missed the Japanese for fanboy though :(
P.S. Next week, Vogel, Janis and Simon (and possibly Demetri too??) are off on their jolly to Somalia (sans cavalry). I'm thinking it might also feature Janis' baby being conceived - still waiting to see if we're right about Simon being the father.

Date: 2010-04-02 12:34 pm (UTC)Just wanted to add that my favourite bit so far is the lingerie. That was really nicely done. Understated, not resorting to her telephoning a friend to explain the significance, just left for us to recognise the inevitability of what is going to happen despite their intentions.
Feels like it is really hotting up with this last episode too, and I'm glad Simon is a more complicated person than purely good or bad afterall.
