Finally, Berlin.

We couldn't get any closer to the Brandenberg gate; there was a rally going on.

Pretty much just round the corner was the Holocaust Memorial.

The Siegessäule. Lucky to have survived under the circumstances.

The Bundeskanzleramt.

The Bundestag. Like much of Berlin, substantially rebuilt since WWII.
Excellent views from the top.

Berlin is heaving with cranes.

Inside the dome.

The Fernsehnturm, which is visible from all over the place; it’s the tallest thing in Berlin by a long way. Good views from up here too though harder to take decent photos through the windows.

Nebuchadnezzar’s inscription on the (reconstructed) Ishtar gate. Berlin has multiple excellent museums, most of them conveniently clustered together.

Jewelery from Ur. Well over 4,000 years old.

Scythian gold.

Fragment of the Heliand, a famous Old Saxon text.

Red panda at the zoo. There are two zoos, for historically obviousreasons. Mostly the western one is better but eastern one has red pandas so of course we had to go to both.

Krusta, an East German pizza equivalent, served in the restaurant attached to the DDR Museum.

Part of the Berlin Wall.

Within the Berlin Wall. I’d not realized how wide it was (this picture doesn’t show the full width).

Banner at the Stasi Museum.

Obsolete flag.

Erich Mielke’s private space. Mostly the DDR stuff just looked old-fashioned rather than in any way alien.

A lot of forbidden material was smuggled in bikes.

The cabin away from Berlin was marginally more spacious than on the way there.
