More struggling against Java. I spent too long looking for bugs in my code when it was Java's fault and then too long trying to find a workaround for what I thought was a bug in Java that was actually my own error. Finally started making sensible progress later in the day though. Swimming now.

This is how Java is: unpredictable and inelegant. What's really depressing is that, as you'll know, when it was designed, things were known that could have been learned from that weren't, and that, among mainstream languages, for many applications it's still a relatively good choice. I likely have another bunch of Java programming coming up soon; this time, servlets and JDBC. You have my sympathies.

I decided to stop this evening when I found I'd created a JCE keystore that the provider that produced it couldn't read back. Oops. I doubt there's more than another day of work on the Java stuff though, after which I can get back into proper languages l-)
