Look at the screen in front of you. What apps have you got open? What's running in the background?
screenshot. sfere and chiark XEmacs, the former being used to write this, Mozilla (mostly livejournal pages but BBC and The Register too), irc client, some kind of Gnomish file manager that leaves droppings on the desktop. There's a lyonesse XEmacs buried underneath those.
Scattered across the rest of the virtual desktop are three more lyonesse XEmacsen, several Konqueror windows (house jb, BBC weather, my home page, POSIX printf), too many pterms to describe, acroreads open on C99, the C99 draft rationale and Printing Floating-Point Numbers Quickly and Accurately by Robert G.
