League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen is quite fun but doesn't make a great deal of sense and doesn't have a particularly close relationship to the book. Kill Bill hangs together rather better, and is exceptionally (and cartoonishly) gory; I think Saving Private Ryan made the same point about violence better, assuming Tarantino is indeed trying to make a point and not just a mess.

Date: 2003-10-27 04:15 pm (UTC)I didn't come away from Kill Bill with any particularly general message, beyond such facile and obvious observations as "in a violent subculture, people die" and "cutting parts of people off with a sword makes a lot of mess". But then, I don't think a film has to have a point. As such.
