BK is American in origin, but were until recently owned by the British company Diageo, who sold it back to the Americans a year ago in order to concentrate on drinks. Diageo was created from the merger of Grand Metropolitan and Guinness. Grand Met obtained Burger King when they bought Pillsbury.
