Jan. 18th, 2004 09:52 pmWednesday. Swimming, this time at the Abbey Pool rather than Parkside; it's much less crowded and although it's a bit further to go from work it's still pretty convenient.
Thursday. Karate, mostly concerning stance, though I learned a punch and a couple of ways to escape when grabbed. Quite tiring but enjoyable. Pub afterwards which was also good.
Friday. Watched Moulin Rouge with LNR. Fun.
Saturday. Went to London Aquarium with Kirsten and Benedict. Some of the sharks are impressively big, and there were plenty of other interesting things to see. Piranhas don't look very vicious...
Afterwards we had a wander along the embankment to Cleopatra's Needle. While we were there someone's kid jumped off one of the Sphinxes(!) - child and alarmed mother came to a stop at my feet, rather surprising me as I'd been looking in another direction at the time. Everyone seemed to manage to walk away though...
(Back in Cambridge...) Benedict insisted I read him his bedtime story, which is not something I've done before, but nobody told me I was doing it wrong. After that, to the Boat Race, where we saw Dead Empire (who were OK), Son Of Nothing (who were great) and Rome Burns, who I thought were quite fun.
Sunday. 8-10 miles walking with Becky, Tony, Rachel, Thomas and Emily. After a considerable amount of logistical faff we made our way from Newnham along the Cam to Grantchester, where we stopped for tea and scones, and then headed in the direction of Barton, up the side of and then across the rifle range (not currently in use!), up to Coton and then back into Cambridge. A nice walk and good company but quite tiring and a little muddy! LNR cooked us all an impressive amount of chili when we got back.
...can I stop now?
